Girls Group & Boys Group- In our culture, young women and men are under tremendous pressure to make sense of friends, family, and life without any kind of instruction manual about growing up! In both groups, middle school-age youth gather to figure these out with adult mentors. Girls group meets Thursday evenings; for more information, contact Lonna Field at lonna_field@yahoo.com. Boys group meets Wednesday evenings; for more information, contact youth director Kent Goodroad at kgoodroad@gmail.com or (952) 220-0415.
Chess Club- Youth and adults gather to strengthen their strategic thinking skills in a game of chess. Facilitated by Jack Mangan, an experienced chess coach, every Monday evening at 6 p.m. in the Living Room. Check it out in the Living Room
Christmas Store- Where else but Redeemer can children and youth buy Christmas presents for their family members for only $1? On the 2nd Saturday of December, Redeemer Lutheran, RCFL, and our church partners produce an afternoon full of gifts, food, carols and crafts.
HAT Program - RCFL’s Housing and Transition (HAT) Program provides a home to youth who would otherwise be without secure housing. Designed for youth ages 16 to 25, HAT places them in their first apartment, provides empowerment and life skills workshops, and surrounds them with community. We’re doing more than helping young people become successful adults; we’re helping them become good neighbors by modelling the same. For more information, contact Babette Chatman, director of facilities, at bchatman@redeemermpls.org or (612)374-4139.
JUMP- Joint Urban Ministries and Praise is an urban worship experience founded in 2001 by Christian hip hop artist Agape (David Scherer). JUMP affirms youth culture and empowers youth leaders, while inspiring and connecting people to God and to each other. In 2005, JUMP collaborated with break dancer Abide (David Pellinen) to create a weekly program for all youth to develop gifts for hip hop and grow in Christian discipleship. In 2008, RJC (Redeemer JUMP Crew) formed and performed all over the Twin Cities and the country. In 2009, RJC released their first CD. Interested in bringing RJC to your congregation, or starting your own JUMP crew? Contact them at rjc@redeemermpls.org.
People on Bikes (POB)- When warm weather rolls into Minnesota, it feels great to hop on a bicycle and take off. With this in mind, POB gears up in the spring and summer to share with our young people skills for fixing bikes and selling them. For more information, contact youth director Kent Goodroad at kgoodroad@gmail.com or (952) 220-0415.
Summer Camps- Every summer RCFL sponsors some great summer camps for children and youth in Harrison Neighborhood. In 2010, kids learned mural painting, had a blast singing hip hop, got their hands dirty in the community garden, and zipped around on roller skates and bicycles. We hope you’re just as excited as we are for summer 2011!
